Zanzibar Island

1 (877) 256 - 1074

is a unique coral island lying in the Indian Ocean a short distance from the Tanzanian Coast. With Pemba, and about 50 other islands, the archipelago, once independent, became attached to the republic of Tanzania in 1964, although it still retains its own President and a degree of autonomy.

The island’s history goes back many centuries. Its heyday came in the early 19th century when the Sultan of Muscat moved his court to Zanzibar. Spice cultivation was developed (particularly the clove tree), and the slave trade was at its height – Zanzibar became the most important town in East Africa.

The picturesque capital of Zanzibar, the Stone town is network of shady, winding narrow alleys between old stone buildings with ornately decorated entrances and balconies. Numerous tiny shops here sell everything under the sun.

Besides being dubbed the “Spice Island”, Zanzibar boasts magnificent coral reefs making it a scuba as well as deep-sea diver’s paradise. Sailing and deep-sea game fishing are also popular activities that can be arranged readily at most of the beach hotels. While there are many activities on offer, a lot of travelers go there for the sole purpose of relaxing under its luxurious palm trees and white sand beaches that stretch as far as the eye can see.
